Date: November 3, 2003 Clark Says Our Economic Mission is not yet Accomplished "Today, in a speech in Alabama, President Bush touted his economic record, claiming 'We did the right thing at the right time for our economy.' "This President claims credit for an up-tick in growth, but deflects responsibility for record budget deficits and massive job losses. "Our country is suffering from a leadership deficit when it comes to our economic and national security. We need new leadership that will make the right choices to get our country back on track. "In fact, given this administration's credibility gap, I assume that any day now the Secretary of Treasury will leak a memo saying that our economy still has 'a long hard slog' ahead. We still need the right type of stimulus. That's why we should repeal Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy and use the money to create jobs. "On May 1, the President declared 'Mission Accomplished' on Iraq. Yet we still have no plan to bring peace to Iraq and protect our soldiers. President Bush seems ready to declare 'Mission Accomplished' on our economy. I say: 'Not yet Mr. President-we've lost too many jobs.'" |
