Date: January 7, 2004 Clark Campaign Shows Commitment To Hispanic Community
Little Rock - Yesterday, the Clark campaign met with local Hispanic business and community leaders during a walk-around Manchester. This was the campaign's third outreach event to the New Hampshire Hispanic community this week. Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton, who speaks fluent Spanish and helped found the group Latinos-Unidos in Green Bay, Wisconsin, also took part in the walk-around. She stated, "Wes Clark's experience in the Army, where he fought hard to recruit and provide advancement opportunities for all minorities, proves that he is the leader we want in the White House. He understands the dreams people have for their families and wants to help people achieve those dreams." The walk-around, which included stops at local Hispanic-owned businesses and the city's Latin-American Center, is part of a nationwide effort to reach out to the more than 38.8 million Hispanics and Latinos in this country. Clark supports immigration reform, improving Mexican-American relations, and the creation of a temporary worker program. He is committed to fully addressing the issues that concern the Hispanic community in the coming election. "Wes Clark's commitment to the Hispanic community is clear. He worked closely with Hispanics throughout his thirty-four year career in the Army. His only son is married to a Latina and they just had a baby boy," said Kety Esquivel National Hispanic Outreach Coordinator. "The future of his family, like the future of our nation, is inextricably linked with the future of our community." New Hampshire Hispanic Outreach Coordinator Raul Bernal said, "Our commitment to Hispanic outreach here in New Hampshire proves that Clark is committed to including our community. He will support the interests of the Hispanic population, and we want to make sure the community knows that. It's time to bring a higher standard of leadership back to the White House." |
